9 Common Signs of Roofing Damage

Home owners, damage to your roof is unfortunately one of those things that is simply inevitable. Take a look at these nine common signs of roof damage to help you catch the problem before it turns into a larger issue!

1. Weak Flashing

If your roof leaks, there’s a fair chance that you have a gap in your flashing, or it has corroded due to age. Leaking can also occur if the flashing was not properly sealed.

2. Wind Damage

Wind can appear to be harmless, but it may cause serious damage to your roof. It’s best to call us for assistance if a piece of your shingles was blown off during a recent windstorm.

3. Water Damage

Water can seep through your roof through cracks and gaps over time, compromising the structure and causing problems in other areas of your home.

4. Pooled Water

If you see pools of water on top of your roof, particularly after a rainstorm, it could be a sign of faulty drainage. Check your roof for pooling water on a regular basis to avoid early degradation.

5. Blocked Gutters

Do you have dirt, leaves, or other debris in your gutters? If you do, water will pool on top of your roof due to the clogged gutters, weakening its structure over time.

6. Membrane Shrinkage

The protective membrane underneath your shingles can shrink over time, causing your shingles to blister and crack.

7. Roof Punctures

Punctures in your roof can be caused by harsh weather, and will leave your roofing system exposed to more damage if they are not addressed quickly.

8. Poor Ventilation

Improper roof ventilation, puts your home at risk for mold and mildew growth.

9. Tree Damage

Overhanging branches from trees near your roof can scratch and erode your shingles.  Troublesome branches can also split shingles and cause whole parts to wear away, and  in extreme conditions can fall into your home causing severe roofing damage.
